Begin flap: Palm section--knit across palm stitches, turn, work back and forth for about 7 rows over the palm stitches, ending with wrong side. RS: bind off, leaving a 6" tail.
Back of hand (BOH) section--Using German Twisted or Long tail cast on, cast on 25 stitches. Continue with back of hand stitches in pattern, and join in the round to the cast-on stitches, being careful not to twist. Continue working in pattern in the round for about 9 rows. At beginning of next round (palm) k1, ssk, work to last 3 stitches of palm, k2 tog, k1; on BOH, k1, ssk, work to last 3 stitches of BOH, k2 tog, k1. *Work 1 round even, then repeat decrease row* 4 more times (10 st decreased on each half of hand). Work decrease round every round for 3 more rounds, or until 12 stitches remain on each of 2 needles, and graft ends together.
Thumb: pick up the 8 stitches on either side of waste yarn with a dpn. Join MC at right side of thumb, work across the 8 stitches, pick up and knit 1 stitch, knit across the second dpn, p u and k 1 stitch, and work in the round (18 st). (you can do this on ML or 3 dpns). Knit until about 1/2 less than desired length of thumb, work decrease round, 1 round even, 1decrease round, 1 round even, 1 decrease round. Cut yarn, leaving a 12" tail, and kitchener the stitches together, or leaving an 8" tail, and thread tail on needle and run needle through live stitches twice, pulling tight.
Inner flap on palm: stitch the edge of the inner flap inside the "cap" on each side. Weave all loose ends in.
